it finally happened. i knew it was gonna happen, but i guess it still hit me kinda hard.
man utd have finally accepted a bid for ronaldo from real. so he's pretty much gone la. for me it's like my head's saying, "good riddance you ungrateful bugger", and then my heart's like, "aww i'm gonna miss you". think this article sums up my sentiments perfectly;
as a fan of manchester united, which i have been since i was a little bitty girl, i totally get the policy that no player's bigger than the club, and that his incessant prima donna attitude was getting out of hand. heard he was causing problems in the dressing room too, so i guess for team morale he had to go. then there's the whole issue bout lack of club loyalty, why keep a player who obviously doesn't wanna be there?
plus there's also the money issue. 80 million pounds is a lot of money, especially in a recession. i think utd figured last pre-season would've been the last time they could hold out on real and get an even higher amount this pre-season. so financially they figured this will be their best offer. and this'll allow them to strengthen the team, which they'll need to do.
how do you replace the best player in the world? seriously he was, and could possibly still be a major asset to the team if he stays. the papers claim utd will need at least 2 or even 3 players to replace him, which is probably true, because honestly he's that good. when he isn't sulking on the floor aft the ref refused to award him the foul, he's actually quite exciting to watch. he brought such joy to my man utd match-watching process and i'll def miss him in the iconic red of utd.
i have the man utd magazine from when he first joined the club, and the file of newspaper pics of him i've been cutting out, which sounds kinda stalker-ish but it isn't. haha. ok kinda put that on hold for a while but the pages are still there waiting to be cut, and i think i will get down to cutting them eventually, an aft a's project maybe. guess it'll allow me to look back and appreciate all he's done for the club in the somewhat short 6 years here.
so goodbye ron, it was good, well mostly good, while it lasted.
